Eerie Indiana and Glam Metal

Hello Horror Fans!!!

This post is about an episode from a short lived but very entertaining 90s Horror T.V. Series; unfortunately it only lasted for one season.

The show was Eerie Indiana and the episode is Broken Record, the plot of the episode is about a nerd, Tod, who is friends with Marshall and Simon. Marshall suggests Tod to listen to a metal band, Pitbull Surfers, and Tod agrees, shortly Tod becomes a metalhead but there was one thing that caught my attention, Pitbull Surfers image and sound did not seem to fit with the 90s image, so I decided to investigate.

After a short investigation I found the answers.

1. Eerie Indiana is not so much of a 90s T.V. Series, it was filmed in 1991 before the 90s have defined its identity.

Kids playing a Vinyl Disc, definitely not a 90s picture.
2. Pitbull Surfers are a pure Glam Metal Band, a popular genre before the arrival of the Seattle guys.

Glam Metal Aethetics.
 3. Nirvana broke into the mainstream at the end of 1991, Nevermind was released iun August of that year, by November Smells like Teen Spirit video was in heavy rotation in MTV, and In January 1992 Nevermind displaced Michal Jackson album Black or White to the number one position, with this a new generation had arrived and Glam Metal was suppresed from the popular culture.

Grunge had its own image and fashion.
4. Event though Broken Record was the last episode to aired it was one of the first filmed according to IMDB. Broken Record aired on December 19th of 1993, almost a year and a half later than the previous one, by the time It aired the show had been canceled and was on syndication.

Tod in his Metalhead persona.
So after this tiny invetigation I was able to understand why the episode did not fit 90s image, It was filmed just before the alternative revolution.

I would like to add that the episode delivers a very important message, parents a lot of times blame their kids problems on rock music while never considering their actions towards them.
